“I did want my heart wanted me to do,
you do the same…”

Monica is a pioneer as an acid attack survivor that will be known beyond her scars. She’s excelled by following her passion for education, her drive to make it in the fashion industry and her desire to give back to the very community she found herself a part of in 2005. She graduated with honours as class valedictorian from Parsons School of Design in New York in 2017, established her career in the fashion industry as well as maintained her philanthropic work through her foundation to spread awareness about violence against women and gender-related issues. Through her work, she’s become a vital source for information and inspiration globally through her collaborations with the United Nations as well as major media outlets including CNN, NBC, BBC, CBC, local NY1, Conde Nast, Bancroft Media, The New York Times, The Times of India, Women in the World, Upworthy and Mashable.

Monica’s talent and determination were apparent well before the attack that nearly ended her life in 2005. Throughout her young years, she won awards for competitions in the arts, drawing, dance and sports. In sports, she excelled leading and playing on National sports teams in Cricket and Lawn Tennis. Her creative talents in acting, modelling and fashion granted offers and auditions with regional and international movies including Bollywood, National TV Show Anchor and work in modelling and runway productions. Above all, she strove for fashion design and placed second in the overall India competition that granted her admission in the global top-ranking National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi.

Today, having spoken around the US, being an avid advocate for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals particularly #4 (Quality Education) and # 8 (Gender Equality) and a UN Women Youth Ambassador, as the Founder of the Mahendra Singh Foundation she is more focused than ever on girl’s and women’s empowerment and breaking the barriers of survivors through skills and leadership education.
